I have been slacking on these blog posts, sorry guys! The days have been packed. Let's see, I left off on Wednesday.
Thursday, we went back to the village to pick up that little twin, Tsepang (T is silent). He is severely malnourished and has had a cough and has been vomiting and losing weight since January. He rode on my lap on the bumpy mountain roads all the way home...i really wish they had carseats here. The little guy was so sweet and well behaved, he didn't cry at all! He is in the safe home now and doing a little better each day. He has the sweetest demeanor. All the kids really do..they're so resilient and get so excited when we come to play with them or help with meals. The looks on those little faces make my day.
On Thursday, another outreach team brought in a 17 year old mom with her 5 day old triplets! I haven't met them yet, they're still in the hospital. Everyone is really looking forward to them gaining some weight so they can come to the safe home at TTL.
Yesterday, we had the day off for Good Friday. We walked into town to watch a big soccer tournament that was happening. The Mokhotlong team, called the Peacekeepers, were very good! We were a little nervous because we've heard the players can get into fights and spectators can get caught in the shuffle...so we definitely kept our distance. We also shopped for all the supplies to make our Easter brunch. We are going to dye eggs (which are brown here, so we'll see how that goes), and Im making banana pancakes...we'll see how that turns out given our very limited kitchen!
Last night, we went out for dinner at the Senqu Hotel, the only other restaurant in town. This place was slightly more upscale than the Mokhotlong hotel...they actually had more than one menu! It was funny, we sat down, they handed us the menu, and said "ok let me tell you what we have." Of the 30 or so things listed, they had about 5. I ordered a cheeseburger, which turned out to actually be a breaded chicken sandwich. Our food came out in shifts of 2, like 20 minutes apart. I think maybe their grill only has the capacity for 2 burgers at once...funny, because the restaurant must have 12 tables. We were the only customers, however. With our meals, we all enjoyed a yummy "tiser," which is just a sparkling juice beverage. They are very popular here...it's basically sparkling apple or grape juice in a can. Yum!
On Saturday, we're planning a 4.5 hour hike out to one of the waterfalls in the area. Im looking forward to a picnic lunch and beautiful scenery.
Happy Easter Weekend!
